The imbalance of talent and fake resumes

Heya,

I was going through my social media feed and something caught my attention. Well, I am not really happy to share it with you but yes I had to. It was a post that says “what should be the answer to the question: what is your goal in life?, in interviews” That is really stupid to ask. I really thought people answer their true goals for that question but now I am amazed.

How can you expect someone else to tell you what your goals should be or maybe you are just preparing a fake answer. Breaking down my thoughts, firstly no one else can or should tell you about your goals, everybody has their own goals. Secondly, stop faking your resumes or interview answers! Read about how to live a goal-oriented life

I believe people are just running behind filling up data in their resumes which they don’t even work for, just because they think resumes have a format.

10 ways to write a resume

  1. Never copy: If you are copying someone else’s resume you will land a job same as that person. Or maybe the resume you think to be perfect to be copied is also not that impressive. You can view resumes of other people just to get an idea what things to include or just an inspiration but to copy the whole thing is really stupid.
  2. Never fake: If you are writing fake skills or motivational lines that you don’t mean, or you are mentioning yourself as a team player but you are not 😛 then karma will surely come for you! 😛 Such things are easily caught during interviews so why even do something just to get rejected in the end?
  3. Include online profiles: Yes! You can and you should. If you have spent time on working and posting on platforms like GitHub, Quora, hackerrank, stack overflow, linkedin, behance etc you should include those profile links or usernames in your resumes.
  4. Highlight your expertise: Rather than writing fake skills, you should write more about the skill you actually know. You can mention sub-skills under that skill, projects, and workshops related to that skills.
  5. Do not use online resume builders: Online resume builders make it easy for you and they actually override your thoughts, so you spend pretty less time in analyzing your resume and many things remain unmentioned. Besides you can use MS-word, photoshop etc to make your resumes pretty.
  6. Write about you: People fill out space in resume writing about technologies or projects, HRs already know it dear or they can google it, your resume is and should be about you and only you.
  7. Alter it according to the profile: You must not include things that are not relevant to the profile for which you are applying because that simply deviates the interest of the reader and the HR will be more likely to reject you.
  8. Alter it according to the company: The culture of every company is different, some are very formal, some are less, some are totally informal, some are a mix of both. So you should first study the company website and their culture and then use that as your strength in a resume.
  9. Fewer pages: You should include things and mention it in points, avoid writing extra paragraphs and try to utilize the whole space as much as possible.
  10. We were talking about goals right?: See if you actually follow the steps from 1-9 you will be able to define your goal by yourself in the interview. Trust me on it and you will not have to fake it anymore.

  1. I dont want to accept this but I too ask people about that question, and you gave the answer that really made me happy about myself otherwise I was just feeling depressed that I have no goals.
